When the gardening and upkeep of their four-bedroom home became more of a chore than a pleasure, Bev and Bob Wilsher took the decision to downsize and move from their four-bedroom home in West Drayton, where they’d lived for over 40 years.
Now, they’re settled in their new apartment at Beechcroft’s Pinewood Place, Windsor and they couldn’t be happier.
Originally intending to move to Binfield House, Beechcroft’s over 55s development in Binfield, they changed their minds just before they were due to exchange contracts when their son, who drives the Go-to-Gate Heathrow airport shuttle bus, saw the signs for the company’s Pinewood Place development in Windsor and suggested they take a look.
“I am so pleased that we discovered Beechcroft in the first place,” says Mrs Wilsher. “We first heard of Beechcroft when we were looking at new developments by other retirement developers and I went straight home and did some research. Originally, we went over to Binfield and decided to buy there before our son, who drives the Go-to-Gate airport shuttle bus down Hatch Lane, noticed the signage for Pinewood Place. Within a week, we’d viewed Pinewood Place and decided that it was much more suitable for us. We liked the fact that Pinewood Place is a gated development and feels really secure. We looked at a few apartments and chose a two-bedroom apartment with a balcony and a lovely outlook. Less than a week later, we moved in. It was amazing really; everything happened so quickly. The Beechcroft team was really helpful and nothing has been too much trouble for them.”
“There’s a wonderful sense of community at Pinewood Place. When we first looked round, we chatted to a friendly group of residents. On the day we moved in, even before we’d finished unloading the removals van, one neighbour came round with a bottle of prosecco for me and beer for my husband and another brought us a home-made cake. We have been made to feel really welcome and we’ve visited some of our neighbours’ apartments to get furniture ideas. We’ve already attended several social events including Christmas drinks at a local pub, coffee mornings and pub quizzes. There’s also a trip to the cinema to see the new ‘Song Sung Blue’ movie.”

“One of our reasons for moving home was to be closer to our family – our son lives in Bracknell and our daughter lives in Frimley. We are certainly seeing more of our son now we’re on his route to the airport. Some of the residents here book the Go-to-Gate shuttle bus and travel to Terminal 5 at Heathrow where they can take the underground into London. I am hoping to take my granddaughter into London with me.”
“Windsor is a really good place to retire. It’s a lovely area with a wonderful sense of history, a theatre, some good shops and lots of restaurants and pubs where we’re able to meet up with friends. There’s a leisure centre, although I haven’t ventured there as yet. In the summer, we catch the river boat and head down to Windsor’s Monday night races. Of course, there’s easy access to the motorway and we can get into central London easily from Terminal 5. I volunteer at the Thames Hospice in Bray and that’s only about seven minutes’ drive from home. It isn’t far from West Drayton where we used to live but it’s so much nicer and we are really happy at Pinewood Place.”
Pinewood Place is a gated development of 29 elegant new homes, designed for the over 55s and set in beautifully landscaped gardens off Hatch Lane in Windsor. Each home comes with a terrace, balcony or private garden along with allocated parking and there’s an Estate Manager to handle the day-to-day administration of the development including the cleaning and maintenance of the communal areas and the upkeep of both private and communal gardens.
