Moving closer to family is one of the main reasons that people over the age of 55 move to a new home. This was certainly the case for Mrs Margaret Blacknell who made the move from North Somerset to Windsor to be nearer her eldest son who lives half-an-hour’s journey from her new home. She’s now settled into an apartment at Pinewood Place and, as she explains, was grateful for Beechcroft’s offer of a handyman’s services.
“At the time I bought my Beechcroft apartment at Pinewood Place I was living in an Airbnb and my furniture was in storage. I’d already sold my house but the flat I intended to buy in Wokingham fell through. There are a lot of retirement developments in Wokingham but they weren’t the sort of places I wanted to live,” says Mrs Blacknell. “I looked on Rightmove and saw that the Beechcroft apartments for sale at Pinewood Place were ready for occupation – so I was able to buy without any delays. I am very pleased with my apartment and I’ve met lots of nice neighbours. Windsor is a lovely place to live; I’ve joined the Windsor Leisure Centre and the U3A and, because Windsor is close to Heathrow, flying to Austria for my holiday, was easy.”
“When I moved in, Beechcroft provided the services of a handyman for four hours which was really useful. Being a woman on my own I was very grateful for the assistance and, at my age I didn’t want to be standing on a stepladder to put up pictures or to put lampshades on the ceiling lights. The handyman, Todd, did all that for me.”

He also hung my mirrors, fixed a clothes rail in the entrance hall for my coats and shopping bag as well as assembling some items of furniture that I’d bought. I had made-to-measure curtains for the living room and my son sorted out the curtain rail and curtains in my bedroom but Todd put a rail up and hung the curtains in the spare room. I certainly made use of the four hours’ help and the handyman was very willing and very helpful.”
