Leading retirement developer, Beechcroft, has acquired planning permission for a new development of 103 retirement homes, both houses and apartments, on London Road in Shenley.
Planning permission on this ‘grey belt’ site of just over 10 acres, which is set partially within the Shenley Conservation Area, was granted at appeal, being judged to be sustainably located and to meet pressing local need.
The new homes will include houses and apartments, half of which will be available as affordable tenure homes including as the Discounted Market Sale scheme, whereby people over the age of 55 with strong local connections are able to buy at less than the full market value.
The development, which will be set in beautifully landscaped and fully maintained grounds, will include a comfortable lounge where residents will be able to socialise over coffee and hold events and celebrations and a luxurious guest suite which may be booked by residents for visiting family and friends. The development, which will feature allocated parking with electric vehicle charging points, will also provide an estate management service to handle the day-to-day administration of the development including the cleaning and maintenance of communal areas and the upkeep of both private gardens and the landscaped setting.
“We are delighted to have been granted planning permission and would like to thank members of our team who have worked hard to achieve this. This development, designed for the over 55s, will provide much needed retirement housing in the area but, more than this, homes of the type, active, independent people over the age of 55 really want to live in.”
, Managing Director of Beechcroft
“The Discounted Market Sale homes provide an opportunity for local people over the age of 55 who cannot afford to pay the full price for a high-quality retirement home in this popular area.”
