Burford is the gateway to the Cotswolds. Staying in this town is a great way to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and visit family members who live here. If you’re looking for a hotel to call home for your time in the Cotswolds, the Burford House Hotel and Restaurant is a great option.

The Location

Located right on the high street, the hotel is in an ideal location in the heart of town. It’s surrounded by the shops, restaurants, and cafes Burford is known for. It’s near the historic church and many of the town’s pubs, too.

If you’re into walking, there are lots of country rambles you can do right from the front door of the hotel. The villages of the Windrush Valley are particularly worthy of a walk. Further afield, you can drive to the Cotswolds Wildlife Park, Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, and famous villages like Bibury.

The Atmosphere

A 17th-century inn, the Burford House Hotel and Restaurant is full of period charm inside and out. From a half-timbered facade to golden stone details, it makes guests feel like they’re in a quintessentially Cotswolds environment.

With a warren of rooms on the ground floor and a sunny garden in back, the hotel has a comforting atmosphere.

The Rooms

When it comes to staying overnight, the Burford House Hotel and Restaurant offers six spacious ensuite bedrooms and a self-contained cottage. Each one is uniquely decorated, offering a range of styles to choose from.

The bedrooms contain period features like large wooden beam ceilings and antique furniture. They offer the same sense of heritage as the other areas of the hotel. Four-poster beds are accented by artistic touches like sculptures, pictures, lamps, and decorative curtains and carpets.

Rooms also have all the modern amenities guests expect from a 21st-century hotel. Each one features a smart television, complimentary Wi-Fi, bottled water, tea and coffee facilities (with biscuits!), and daily housekeeping service.

The bathrooms contain showers and separate tubs, and they’re adorned with vases and sculptures to match the room decor. They also come with a range of cosmetics, an amenity kit, and luxurious towels.

Bumble cottage sleeps two people and comes complete with a private living area and kitchenette. It’s located at the back of the hotel through the courtyard.

Eating and Drinking

When it comes to eating and drinking at the Burford House Hotel and Restaurant, guests have a range of options. At the front of the hotel, there’s a bar and a restaurant. The former is a cozy space with yellow walls and an open fireplace. Wooden tables and chairs add atmosphere, as do lamps and plants.

The restaurant, Sulla Collina, is done in blue, with the same beam ceilings as the rooms. Like the bar, it has wooden furniture that adds character. There’s also a comfortable brown leather banquette along one wall.

As the name implies, the food and wine at the restaurant is Italian. From antipasti to starters, mains, and sandwiches, the menu offers a range of dishes for lunch and dinner. The bruschetta is a particular stand-out among the starters, and specials like seafood-and-avocado salad go down a treat. Tiramisu is a must for dessert. It offers a great balance of richness and creaminess.

Guests also enjoy breakfast in the restaurant. There’s a buffet to one side, and it’s replete with yogurt, fresh fruit, croissants, cereals, muesli, and juices. Hot breakfast options range from the traditional Full English Breakfast (or a vegetarian version of it) to a variety of egg dishes. The eggs Benedict with smoked salmon is delicious.

At the back of the ground floor is another dining room. It looks out onto the walled courtyard garden, which is a great place to enjoy a drink or meal on a sunny day. Tables and chairs dot the terrace, and grapevines provide shade and add greenery to the space.
