Pamela Laws, who lived in Epsom in Surrey, had been thinking about downsizing for about a year when her son and daughter-in-law discovered a home that would be perfect for her at Beechcroft’s Seymour Court development in Thame.    She went along to take a look: they were quite right and it’s proved to be an excellent move as she explains:

“My husband died three years ago and my friends all seemed to be leaving Epsom which meant I was feeling more and more isolated.  Both my children suggested moving closer to my family – my son, his wife and their three teenagers live in Thame.”

“My son and daughter-in-law noticed that Beechcroft was building Seymour Court, a retirement development, in Thame and told me that they had found an apartment that would really suit me.  They suggested I go and have a look at it.  At the time I had been looking at bungalows but they all needed so much work doing to them and would have been very costly to renovate.”

Seymour Court is the result of the careful conversion of Thame’s fire house, built in 1878, which now forms part of an elegant collection of 21 new and converted two and three-bedroom houses and apartments, designed for the over 55s and tucked away in a landscaped, fully-maintained setting off Park Street.   Local shops and services are almost ‘on the doorstep’ and an Estate Manager is on hand to organise the maintenance and cleaning of the communal areas and the gardening of both communal and private gardens, to offer help and advice and keep an eye on properties whilst owners are away.

“I had certain criteria in mind when looking for a new home but I hadn’t really thought about buying an apartment.  When I viewed the apartment my family thought I’d like – that’s when it all happened.  I liked it from the beginning particularly as it is south-facing and has a balcony. Now that the winter has come, it’s really cosy.  When I moved in, I didn’t change my basic furniture - I thought I would be more comfortable surrounded by familiar things.  Really, I have surprised myself at how well I have settled in.”

Mrs Laws has already joined an art group, has enrolled in a ‘pay as you go’ gym and appreciates the growing sense of community at Seymour Court:

“There are a few other apartments and some houses near my new home,  I have already had several drinks invitations and am getting to know my neighbours.”

Currently, prices at Seymour Court start from £295,000 for a two-bedroom apartment with lift access on the second floor.  For further information or to make an appointment to view the show homes which reveal the high-quality fixtures and fittings that are a feature of all the homes at Seymour Court, please contact the Beechcroft sales team on 01844-216827 or visit the website on beechcroft.co.uk.
