A Move To Birch Place, Berkhamsted Transforms Life For Molly and Jim

When Jim and Molly Moone moved to Beechcroft’s Birch Place in Berkhamsted, they didn’t have far to go.   The couple were living just ¾ mile away but now, rather than being at the top of a hill, they are right in the centre of town.   Their new home is also a ‘family investment’ as Molly’s daughter bought the apartment for her mother and stepfather to live in with a view to keeping it in the family.

Built on the site of the former police station in Berkhamsted High Street, Birch Place is a gated development comprising 21 elegant two and three-bedroom apartments along with a pair of three-bedroom houses, all designed exclusively for the over 55s.   Most of the new homes, which are energy-efficient and easy to maintain, provide a balcony or terrace and all include fixtures and fittings of the highest quality.  Apartments have lift access and the development provides private parking.   The location is really important to the Moones as Molly explains:

“Being right in the town centre is so useful.   My husband isn’t able to walk far these days and, for him, to be able to walk across the road to get his paper is marvellous.   Whilst we are just a few yards from the High Street, it seems as if we are in another world altogether.  The apartment is so soundproof – no one can believe that the apartment is in the middle of town.”

“We are also within walking distance of the station and have good bus routes almost on the doorstep.  For the first time ever, we have used our bus passes and travelled to Watford, Aylesbury and Chesham.  We went to IKEA on the train, taking a taxi from Bletchley station.”

The development – and the Moone’s new apartment – has met with the approval of friends and family, as Molly confirms:

“Birch Place is a beautiful building which has transformed the town centre.  So far, about 30 people – both family and friends – have viewed our new apartment and everyone absolutely loves it.  Everyone remarks on what a nice development it is.”

With like-minded people buying new homes at Birch Place, a wonderful sense of community has already been generated at this over 55s’ development.

“The people who are living here are lovely,” says Molly.  “There are quite a few single ladies – mainly widows – and this development is just as perfect for them as it is for us.  Everyone is very friendly.  Several of our neighbours have booked a holiday with the local coach company so they will all be going away together.   The Beechcroft sales team has laid on different events that enable us all to get together and my husband and I have invited people in for tea and coffee.”

Whilst owners are away on holiday, the on-site Estate Manager keeps a watchful eye on their homes.  He also handles the day-to-day administration of the development including the cleaning and maintenance of the communal areas and the upkeep of both the landscaped setting and private gardens.  This service is much appreciated by the Moones - as Molly says  “We love the Estate Manager – he is so helpful.”

There is little doubt that Jim and Molly Moone are delighted with their new home:

“I cannot sing the praises of Birch Place loudly enough,” says Molly.  “In fact, I got talking to a couple of prospective purchasers and was so enthusiastic that they thought I worked in the sales office.  Making the move to Birch Place has transformed our lives:  we are so happy here.”

Anyone interested in joining the like-minded community of over 55s at Birch Place, Berkhamsted, needs to move quickly as the final properties are now available.   A three-bedroom house with sun room, terrace and garden is available for £795,000 and a three-bedroom penthouse apartment with two balconies is available at £1,095,000.
