Beechcroft’s Seymour Court in Thame offered a ‘fresh start’ for Mrs Joan Bellingham and now, having lived in her new home for a few months, she wouldn’t go back to Weybridge where she lived for 35 years.
Seymour Court is an elegant collection of 21 new and converted two and three-bedroom houses and apartments, designed exclusively for the over 55s, and tucked away in a fully-maintained, landscaped setting.
Each home features high-quality fixtures and fittings, including bespoke kitchens with top-brand appliances, stylish vanity units and fitted mirrors in the bathrooms and en-suites, fitted wardrobes to at least two bedrooms and flooring, including carpeting, throughout. Many homes provide outside space in the form of a balcony, terrace or private garden.
“I wanted to move from Weybridge to Thame because I have family in the Thame area,” says Mrs Bellingham. “I had been looking for a new home for some time and then I came across Beechcroft’s Seymour Court on Park Street in the heart of Thame. It was a building site when we first visited but my daughter and I took a look at the show home and were very impressed.”
“We had looked at other new-build homes but thought the finish at Seymour Court was much better and the rooms are very spacious,” adds Mrs Bellingham. “I chose a house with a small garden – which is perfect as I am able to spend some time outside.”
The location is ideal for retirees with shops and services almost ‘on the doorstep’ which Mrs Bellingham appreciates:
“Thame is a wonderful market town with a village ‘feel.’ The architecture and the age of some of the buildings give it so much character and the shops are excellent, better than in Weybridge.”
For Mrs Bellingham, the estate management service is a bonus. The on-site Estate Manager also handles the day-to-day administration of the development including the cleaning of communal areas, washing the external windows and maintaining both private gardens and the landscaped setting. He is also on hand to offer help and advice and to keep a watchful eye on properties whilst owners are away – which makes Seymour Court perfect for those who want to ‘lock up and leave.’
Now Mrs Bellingham has family on hand but she is also making new friends:
“I have met a lot of people at Seymour Court and many have moved for the same reason I did – that is, they have family in the Thame area. I’ve joined the Women’s Institute and the U3A here and am volunteering with the ‘Good Neighbours’ scheme. I did these things before and I find it good to be a part of a community – it prevents one becoming isolated. It’s nice having family around but it’s also important to have friends.”
Downsizing isn’t easy for anyone but is worthwhile in the end when you have an energy-efficient home that’s easy to maintain – and you have much less ‘clutter’ around as Mrs Bellingham explains:
“Having been in my former house for 35 years, I had a huge garage which was full of ‘stuff’ – so it took some disposing of. Some things went to auction and car boot sales and charity shops, both in Thame and Weybridge benefited. My daughter came from Australia and she helped with the move as did my other daughter and her husband. The move, however, went smoothly – and I have parking but no garage here which is just as well because if I had, I would have filled it with more stuff!”
