After living in Wiltshire for the past 45 years and bringing up two daughters and a son there, Mrs Dorothy Rendall is preparing to move to Beechcroft’s Silversmith Place in Wallingford. The move means she’ll be much closer to family and will bring new friends into her life.
Designed for the over 55s, Silversmith Place is a collection of 22 elegant two-bedroom apartments located between St Martin’s Street and Goldsmith’s Lane in the centre of Wallingford. The development comprises two buildings with apartments on the first, second and third levels, a garden at first floor level and a communal lobby, allocated parking spaces and two retail units on the ground floor. Several of the apartments have terraces opening onto the garden whilst several have balconies with a view of the garden. Lifts from the residents’ car park will provide access to each floor.
"I was thinking about downsizing from our large family home and having a bungalow in our pretty Wiltshire village. However, after my husband died, I really had to focus my thoughts," says Mrs Rendall.
"I had seen Beechcroft advertisements in the paper - which always look attractive - and then I saw that the company was building something in Wallingford. I have a daughter and grand-daughter in Wallingford, another daughter and two grandchildren in Wheatley and a son in Surbiton so I called for information and was sent a brochure. I kept an eye on the development every time I visited Wallingford and when the development was launched, that was it! I bought an apartment."
"As a centre, Wallingford has got everything including theatre and cinema. There are walking and cycling groups and I enjoy both. I know that, in a few years, I won’t be able to drive any more but the public transport in Wallingford is excellent with three buses an hour into Oxford. Living in Wallingford means I will be able to travel to meet my daughter and to her home. My grand-daughter in Wallingford is already deciding how she wants the second bedroom decorated for when she comes to stay. My family are all very pleased that I will be moving into Wallingford."
"Three weeks ago, I was staying in Wallingford with my daughter and I went to church. The people were really friendly. They soon found out that I would be moving to Wallingford and also that I play bridge and am a member of the U3A. Two people invited me to coffee and another to a barbecue – and I haven’t even moved in yet!"
"I am already planning what potted plants I’ll be able to put on my balcony. I really can’t wait."
Mrs Rendall will have the added benefit of an on-site estate management service at Silversmith Place. An Estate Manager will take responsibility for the maintenance and cleaning of communal areas including the garden and keep an eye on properties whilst owners are away.
