Friends become neighbours at White Lion Place, Cobham

In Beechcroft’s experience, neighbours often become friends on new retirement developments – having shared the experience of downsizing and joining a community of like-minded people. At White Lion Place, Cobham, new home buyers, Raymond and Marion Stenning, are already ‘one step ahead:’ a couple of their friends are about to become neighbours, having already settled at the over 55s’ development.

Mr and Mrs Stenning first noticed White Lion Place a year ago. After living in their Esher home for 46 years, they decided that the time had come to think of the future, when one of them could be left to manage alone.

Although they’d never visited a Beechcroft development before, the couple knew that their friends were pleased with their new home at White Lion Place – and so they bought a new apartment off-plan and exchanged contracts with a view to moving in early next year. The Stennings’ new home is a second-floor apartment with three bedrooms and a balcony in The Malthouse, one of three newly-constructed buildings that, together with the converted, Grade II listed White Lion, form White Lion Place.

This elegant collection of 30 two, three and four-bedroom apartments and two and three-bedroom houses is conveniently located close to the heart of Cobham. The new homes come with private parking and each is energy-efficient, easy to maintain and features fixtures and fittings of the highest quality including bespoke, hand-made kitchen cabinets, fitted wardrobes to at least two bedrooms and bathrooms and en-suites with mirrors and vanity units. An Estate Manager is on hand to organise the cleaning and maintenance of the communal areas, including the landscaped areas and private gardens. The Estate Manager also keeps a watchful eye on properties whilst owners are away and gives help and advice if needed.

The Stennings believe that the estate management service will be a real bonus and whilst they will miss their large garden, they are looking forward to having generously-proportioned rooms and an easily-managed home. They have already met other home buyers in Beechcroft’s sales office – and, of course, their friends, who live at White Lion Place, will be able to introduce them to other new neighbours.

“My friend, who bought at White Lion Place, is a member of my Probus Club – where I’ve been a member since 2001,” says Mr Stenning. “In fact, several people at the club have expressed interest in the development. My wife and I visited my friend’s home and really liked it and he and his wife are happy there. We had already decided to downsize sooner rather than later in case something happens to one of us; it’s better we move together. The fact that Beechcroft has a good reputation – and that we know someone who has already bought there - gave us the confidence to buy our home off-plan.”

“Having good neighbours in a retirement development is definitely more important when you get older. It’s vital to keep in touch with people. With our current circle of friends and many activities we keep busy but are keen to find out what’s on offer around Cobham as well.”

White Lion Place is conveniently placed for the Stennings to visit friends in Esher, for Cobham’s restaurants and shops, including Waitrose, and for both Painshill Park and the RHS gardens at Wisley. Although the Stennings will have plenty to do over the coming months in preparation for their move, their thoughts are now fixed firmly on their future at White Lion Place.
