Anyone who has worked in the UK’s television industry will know the name of the legendary Bobby Warans. As a set dresser and production buyer, Bobby has spent most of his life creating impressive and dramatic backdrops for our best loved programmes, from ‘The Morecambe & Wise Show’ to ‘Absolutely Fabulous,’ ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and ‘The Voice.’ Now, Bobby has chosen an impressive backdrop for his own lifestyle at Beechcroft’s Fitzroy Gate on Richmond Road, on the fringes of Old Isleworth.
Bobby has selected a three-bedroom ground floor apartment in ‘The White House’ a beautiful period building with a history worthy of any drama series. The White House was inherited by Sir William Cooper, through his wife, Lady Isabella Cooper (nee Franks) and, in 1832, this former Chaplain to George III refurbished the house in ‘sumptuous style’ and rerouted the Richmond Road to maximise the views from the house.
Now, the period house along with the outbuildings and a red-brick chapel, dating from 1908, is being refurbished in even more sumptuous style by Beechcroft. When the restoration and conversion work is complete, there will be 23 Beechcroft homes at Fitzroy Gate along with 39 new four and five-bedroom townhouses built by St James within the grounds.
Beechcroft’s collection includes six White House apartments, four two and three-bedroom Mews homes, nine brand new apartments in Isabella House and four unique homes in the red-brick Pugin & Pugin chapel.
Bobby has been living by the river, just a few minutes away from Fitzroy Gate for the last six years but now can’t wait to move into his new apartment.
“I am so excited,” comments Bobby. “Living about three minutes’ away, I have been driving past every day for ages and kept wondering why someone hadn’t bought this lovely walled site – and I was really happy when I saw that Beechcroft and St James were building here. I registered my interest as soon as the signage was in place.”
“I went to the launch of the development and viewed the Beechcroft show flat – and fell in love immediately. I thought to myself that I’d be an idiot if I didn’t buy one of the apartments. The interior design is the best I have seen – so stylish and the walls are a beautiful colour. It is a real treat to see something other than white walls in a new apartment.”
“In my new home, I’ll have the best kitchen I will ever have – I don’t really cook but I was so impressed that the specification included a wine cooler. When I wake up in the morning in my new home, I’ll open my eyes to beautifully high ceilings and cornicing – and underfloor heating, which is a bonus. And, of course, there are the views across the lawns to the river.”
“I just love the Beechcroft team – they are really nice people and didn’t try to push me into buying. They just told me to have a look round and I was so impressed.”
“Now, I’m looking forward to owning a home on a private, gated development with a good sense of community. Where I live at the moment, I don’t see many people as most of them spend time in other parts of the country and I feel a bit isolated. I am hoping to have neighbours at Fitzroy Gate, someone to socialise with. Even my current cleaning lady is delighted with the fact that I’ve bought the apartment at the White House which is only a few minutes’ walk from my former home.”
“I am almost desperate to view the forthcoming chapel conversion; the chapel has some beautiful original features. Isabella House, a collection of brand new two-bedroom apartments, is so stylish and I’m sure the chapel will be the same.”
Currently a stunning three bedroom apartment is on sale in The White House, providing river and parkland views, open plan living space, a master bedroom with a dressing area and an ensuite and a second bedroom with a private balcony. This apartment is priced at £1,100,000.
Within the Mews courtyard, a two-bedroom, two-storey, converted house with an open plan living area and bi-fold doors opening onto the private terrace and an ensuite master bedroom is on the market for £730,000. Within Isabella House, three new build, two-bedroom apartments are currently available priced £650,000 to £725,000, two of which provide a private terrace or a balcony.
