Fitzroy Gate, just off the Richmond Road and close to both Richmond and St Margarets, is undoubtedly one of Beechcroft’s most fascinating developments. Specialist developer, Beechcroft, is creating a collection of period buildings within this gated, landscaped setting into apartments and houses with plenty of style and a plethora of original features.
At the heart of Fitzroy Gate is the stunning White House, once home to Sir William and Lady Isabella Cooper. Sir William, formerly Chaplain to George III, inherited the house through his wife and, in 1832, completely remodelled it in ‘sumptuous style’ even re-routing Richmond Road to ensure the best views of the river from the house.
Now Beechcroft is restoring the house, the stables and an Edwardian chapel within this private riverside retreat and is building just nine new two-bedroom apartments in complementary style.
Beechcroft customers, Armando Campetti and his wife, Maryvonne, are delighted to have secured one of the original apartments within the White House, which combines both period and new build features. Now they are looking forward to moving into their new home later in the year.
“We had just had an offer on our house in Sheen when we saw an advertisement for Fitzroy Gate and we had to take a look,” comments Mrs Campetti. “I liked the feeling of the show apartment, the gardens are lovely and we wanted to be by the river. We are downsizing from a larger house – I don’t want to garden anymore and I am very happy to live in an apartment, particularly one that is set in beautiful surroundings and a good size which will accommodate most of my treasured furniture”.
“I like Old Isleworth and this area offers excellent value for money, better value than Richmond which is within walking distance along the river,” adds Mrs Campetti. “We know the area and have friends locally and are sure that there will be an excellent sense of community at Fitzroy Gate.”
In total, when the restoration and conversion work is complete, there will be 23 Beechcroft homes at Fitzroy Gate along with 39 four and five-bedroom townhouses built by St James within the grounds.
Beechcroft’s collection includes the White House apartments along with four two and three-bedroom houses within The Mews, nine brand new apartments in Isabella House and four unique homes in the red-brick Pugin & Pugin chapel, yet to be released for sale.
Currently a stunning three bedroom apartment is on sale in The White House, providing river and parkland views, open plan living space, a master bedroom with a dressing area and an ensuite and a second bedroom with a private balcony. This apartment is priced at £1,100,000.
Within the Mews courtyard, a two-bedroom, two-storey, converted house with an open plan living area and bi-fold doors opening onto the private terrace and an ensuite master bedroom is on the market for £730,000.
Within Isabella House, three new build, two-bedroom apartments are currently available priced £650,000 to £725,000, two of which provide a private terrace or a balcony.
