For many years, Jacqui Chambers has been saying that she’d love to live in Marlborough – and with a new Beechcroft home, her wish has come true. She, and her husband, Brian, have moved to Beechcroft’s Priory Court and are now living in this delightful town, close to family and just a short walk from all the town’s shops and restaurants.
When Mr Chambers developed health problems, the couple knew that they would need to downsize from their family house to a more manageable home but only went to view one bungalow. One of their daughters, who lives locally, discovered Priory Court and suggested that her parents visit the development. They promised to take a look but didn’t do so for a number of weeks. Their daughter persevered so they visited the show home during the May Bank holiday weekend – and it was a visit that changed their lives.
Designed with retirement in mind, Priory Court is located just off Marlborough’s Salisbury Road, approximately half a mile from the town centre and five minutes’ walk from a new superstore. The two and three-bedroom houses and apartments are energy-efficient, easy to maintain and offer a high quality specification including bespoke kitchens. An on-site estate manager handles the day to day maintenance of the development including the gardening of both private and communal gardens – and is on hand to offer help and advice if needed.
“We knew we’d have to move because of my husband’s ill health and we thought it would be better to move sooner rather than later,” comments Mrs Chambers. “If you make a move later in life, it’s really important to do so when you’re still able to start again and become part of a new community. Many people leave it too late to start over.”
“When we finally visited Priory Court, it was lovely – even though it was still under construction. The Beechcroft sales team was brilliant,” adds Mr Chambers. “They walked us through the site to where the apartment would be – and as soon as I saw it, I knew that it was going to be perfect.”
“When we chose our new home, it was nothing more than a shell,” says Mrs Chambers. “My husband has good visualisation skills and was able to ‘see’ what the end product would be like. The sense of space is fantastic and when the sales team said we would have a garden, I couldn’t believe it. It just felt right.”
“After the Bank Holiday weekend, when we’d first seen the development, we came back with our reservation cheque – and then discovered we had a garage as well. It feels like it was just meant to be. And now we’re here, we are really happy. “Friends can’t believe the sense of space and the storage space. It’s very different from the small retirement property my parents lived in – and, indeed, from my uncle’s retirement apartment. “We are very, very lucky and we say that every day. Neighbours are starting to move in – and some of them have already been over for coffee.”
“We moved in when it was still a building site – neighbours moved in the next day, in January some more arrived and now the flow of new owners is increasing – and we’re happy to welcome them,” concludes Mr Chambers.
“We are now nearer to both our daughters and will continue to help out with babysitting both sets of grandchildren,” adds Mrs Chambers. “This is a lovely place to live – there are lots of restaurants and Rick Stein’s restaurant will be opening soon.”
