Cedar Court, Cheltenham 'ticks all the boxes' for retirement

In a survey of more than 700 people aged 55 and over, a recent Retirement Housing Survey* revealed the factors that were most important to those considering moving to a retirement development and most of these are on offer at Beechcrofts Cedar Court at Thirlestaine Park, Cheltenham. Downsizing is a growing trend for the over 55s as older people are freeing up equity to help family members on the bottom rung of the property ladder or to fund their retirement. Retired home owners currently occupy almost one third of the UKs housing stock but research indicates that more than 25% are likely to consider moving to some sort of retirement housing in the future. Given the current demographics, this proportion equates to about 4.4 million people. Topping the priority list in the survey* was access to a garden or outside space (86%), followed by easy maintenance and an ability to live independently (67%). Allocated parking was a key requirement (65%) and communal areas (56%), a nearby restaurant (37%), gym (37%) and hairdresser (31%) were all important. Almost 50% of the surveys participants stated that it was important to have room for friends or relatives to stay so a two or three-bedroom home is preferable. Respondents commented that a development offering different levels of care would be ideal with 61% saying that having access to future care, if required, is important to them. There is a lack of retirement housing in this country and certainly few retirement developments that tick all the boxes.
