Cedar Court, Cheltenham 'ticks all the boxes' for retirement

In a survey of more than 700 people aged 55 and over, a recent Retirement Housing Survey* revealed the factors that were most important to those considering moving to a retirement development and most of these are on offer at Beechcrofts Cedar Court at Thirlestaine Park, Cheltenham. Downsizing is a growing trend for the over 55s as older people are freeing up equity to help family members on the bottom rung of the property ladder or to fund their retirement. Retired home owners currently occupy almost one third of the UKs housing stock but research indicates that more than 25% are likely to consider moving to some sort of retirement housing in the future. Given the current demographics, this proportion equates to about 4.4 million people. Older home owners are, however, unwilling to move from large family homes unless they can find a high quality retirement property. What factors make a retirement property attractive to the over 55s? Topping the priority list in the survey* was access to a garden or outside space (86%), followed by easy maintenance and an ability to live independently (67%). Allocated parking was a key requirement (65%) and communal areas (56%), a nearby restaurant (37%), gym (37%) and hairdresser (31%) were all important. Almost 50% of the surveys participants stated that it was important to have room for friends or relatives to stay so a two or three-bedroom home is preferable. Respondents commented that a development offering different levels of care would be ideal with 61% saying that having access to future care, if required, is important to them. There is a lack of retirement housing in this country and certainly few retirement developments that tick all the boxes. It is scarcely surprising, therefore, that only one apartment remains available at Beechcrofts Cedar Court at Thirlestaine Park, Cheltenham. Cedar Court is an outstanding development of two and three-bedroom apartments in a beautifully landscaped parkland setting, within a mile of Cheltenhams chic Montpellier Walk with its caf-bars, restaurants and shops. The new apartments are easy to maintain and an Estate Manager is on hand to handle the day to day administration of the development, including organising the gardening and the cleaning and maintenance of the communal areas. Each apartment is self-contained and comes with allocated parking and there is an attractive communal lounge with kitchen area and communal terrace where owners can socialise with their neighbours. Adjacent to Cedar Court is Thirlestaine Park Care Home. Thanks to a unique arrangement between Beechcroft and Porthaven, owners at Cedar Court are able to enjoy a menu of additional services at the care home from a laundry service and daily hot meals to social events and hairdressing. Its also possible for owners at Cedar Court to use the care home to recuperate after operations or illnesses or just to take a few days respite if needed. This arrangement is ideal for couples when one partner requires care and the other wishes to retain an independent life. The final remaining apartment at Cedar Court is a two-bedroom ground floor apartment with a private terrace. The generously-proportioned open plan living space opens onto the terrace, the master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and the second bedroom is conveniently placed just across the hallway from the bathroom. Theres also a utility cupboard, a hall cupboard and fitted wardrobes to each bedroom. This is all on offer for just 395,000.
